Yorkies, officially known as Yorkshire Terriers, have tiny paws and slender legs that can make dog boots difficult to fit. The right lightweight boots can protect their paws from hot pavement, cold weather and rough surfaces while also providing indoor traction for senior Yorkies.
Yorkshire Terriers may be tiny, but they have the confidence and personality of a much larger dog. Originally developed in England, Yorkies are energetic, affectionate and devoted companions. Their long, silky coats and small size make them instantly recognizable.
Most Yorkies weigh around seven pounds, although many family pets are larger. Paw size can vary considerably even among dogs of similar weight, so breed and weight should only be used as a starting point when selecting dog boots.
A Yorkshire Terrier's small paws still need protection from uncomfortable walking surfaces. Dog boots can be helpful for:
The best boots for Yorkies are lightweight, flexible and available in measurements small enough for tiny paws. Always compare your dog's paw length and width with the size chart for the individual product.

Senior Yorkshire Terriers may become less steady on smooth floors because of stiffness, muscle weakness, reduced vision or changes in coordination. A lightweight, flexible boot can provide traction without adding unnecessary weight to a small paw.
Max, my senior Yorkie shown below, wore soft boots indoors. The extra grip helped him walk more confidently after vestibular disease and continued helping as he became older and lost much of his vision.

Yorkies can be difficult to fit because their paws are tiny and their legs are slender. Lightweight, flexible boots with adjustable closures are usually the easiest styles to fit securely.
To measure your Yorkie's paws, have your dog stand on a sheet of paper. Mark the front of the longest toenail and the back of the paw for length, then mark the widest points for width. Measure between the marks and compare both measurements with the product's size chart. Avoid tracing the paw because this often overestimates its size.
